Book Blitz & Giveaway: Shine Not Burn by Elle Casey

Shine Not Burn by Elle Casey
IT HAPPENED IN VEGAS. I can't be held responsible. Things that happen there are supposed to stay there, right? Right? Yeeeah. Not so much. ... Andie's just days away from tying the knot, but there's just ooooone little glitch. Apparently, she's already married. Or someone with her name is married to a guy out in Oregon of all places, and the courthouse won't issue her a marriage license until it's all cleared up. Tripping her way through cow pies and country songs to meet up with a man who gets around places on horseback is her very last idea of how to have a good time, but if she's going to get married, make partner at the firm, and have two point five kids before she's thirty-five, she needs to get to the bottom of this snafu and fix it quick ... before her fiance finds out and everything she's been working toward goes up in flames.

You started out writing in YA.  What brought you over to New Adult?

I've been a reader of new adult titles even before they were called 'new adult'.  And I love the age group it covers.  18-30 years old is such a great time in life, isn't it?  I mean, it's when you sow your wild oats, learn about yourself in the context of the whole world and not just your family and friends; it's where you figure out who you're going to be.  The adult-formative years I guess you could call it.  And the sex part is awesome too, I won't lie.  You can only get so sexy with a YA book, so as a writer, I have to hold back.  In NA, I don't have to do that.  It can be passionate, raw, sometimes awkward and full of bad decisions, but it can be REAL.  I guess that's what I love about NA most … it's raw and real.

How long have you been writing?  What did you do before you were a writer?

I've been writing since January of 2012.  Before that I was a lot of things … most recently an attorney.  But you can add the following other jobs to the list:  retail sales clerk, air traffic controller (in the Air Force), waitress, restaurant owner, stock broker, insurance salesperson, professor, and CEO of a medical device company.  I'm one of those people who gets bored easily, so after being in a job for a few years, I need a change so I can be challenged again.  The beauty of being a writer is it's never the same job twice, and it really doesn't feel like work.  It's the best job I've ever had, hands down.  It's the only job in the world were you walk into work (in my case, open the computer) and your boss starts the day by telling you how amazing you are.  My readers are my bosses now, and I wouldn't have it any other way.  They really are great motivators. :)

What's the most important element in a romance in your opinion?

A sexy guy.  Seriously, he just needs to be sexy as hell, and that doesn't mean sexy can't come in different packages.  For example, in the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the MC, Ian, is very understated and shy, but man, he rocked my world.  He reminds me a lot of my husband, actually.  On the other hand you have your angsty fighters ... guys who you'd never let into your world in real life but who are safe to fall for in books.  Travis from Beautiful Disaster comes to mind. Boy, did he cause a lot of fuss in the reader world!  Chemistry comes in all kinds of packages, which is awesome, but the chemistry has to be there or the book falls flat for me.

What books do you have in the pipeline right now?

All kinds of good stuff!  I'm so excited to get them out to readers.  Here's the NA Romance line-up for June, July, and August: Shine Not Burn, By Design, and Don't Make Me Beautiful, and then a 3-book series that will be released on surprise dates this year: Rebel, Hellion, and Trouble.  Links to all of them on Goodreads here:

Expected release date: July 15, 2013

Nora hopped into the back and started handing me the heavy boxes so I could bring it all into the house. When it was all unloaded she stood on the tailgate and held out her hand so I could help her to the ground. Instead of grabbing her hand, I wrapped my arms around her thighs to lift her, letting her body slide down mine until her feet touched the ground. I kept my hands on her hips and looked her right in the eye so she would know exactly what was coming.
“Jake – don’t,” she stammered, but didn’t pull away.
“I have to,” I told her, as I leaned forward and gently placed my lips on hers. I held them there for just a moment before pulling back to look at her, and my heart felt like it was beating out of my chest.
“I – I can’t do this, Jake.”
“Then don’t kiss me back.”
I leaned in to kiss her again and tightened my arms around her. Cautiously I moved my lips against hers and brought my hand up to touch her face. I heard her moan softly against my lips and it was all the encouragement I needed. I pressed up against her and when I felt her lips part for me, I let my tongue find hers and tilted her head as I deepened the kiss. As my lips began moving more intensely, she wrapped her arms around my neck and crushed her body against mine.
The need I felt for her turned me completely inside out. I hadn’t planned on kissing her today, but when I looked up at her standing on the tailgate, illuminated from the light of the setting sun, I knew I couldn’t wait. I had to know what it was that I was feeling, and if it was something real or if it was just remnants of the past clouding the present. Still, I wasn’t expecting this. Instead of curbing my appetite for her, it only intensified it. I’d never needed anything as much as I needed Nora.
When I finally pulled away, I brushed my thumb against her cheek and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “God, I missed you, Nora.”
“This doesn’t change anything,” she said breathlessly, “I still have to go back to New York.”
“We’ll see,” I said simply.

Release Event & Giveaway: Killing Sarai by J.A. Redmerski

From the author of the New York Times, USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling novel, THE EDGE OF NEVER, comes a story of passion and survival…

---

Sarai was only fourteen when her mother uprooted her to live in Mexico with a notorious drug lord. Over time she forgot what it was like to live a normal life, but she never let go of her hope to escape the compound where she has been held for the past nine years.

Victor is a cold-blooded assassin who, like Sarai, has known only death and violence since he was a young boy. When Victor arrives at the compound to collect details and payment for a hit, Sarai sees him as her only opportunity for escape. But things don’t go as planned and instead of finding transport back to Tucson, she finds herself free from one dangerous man and caught in the clutches of another.

While on the run, Victor strays from his primal nature as he succumbs to his conscience and resolves to help Sarai. As they grow closer, he finds himself willing to risk everything to keep her alive; even his relationship with his devoted brother and liaison, Niklas, who now like everyone else wants Sarai dead.

As Victor and Sarai slowly build a trust, the differences between them seem to lessen, and an unlikely attraction intensifies. But Victor’s brutal skills and experience may not be enough in the end to save her, as the power she unknowingly holds over him may ultimately be what gets her killed.

This is their story…

I raise the gun a little higher, settling the barrel at the back of her head, but not touching it. I don’t want her to be afraid before she dies and although I know she fears nothing, death is something we all fear in our final moment even if only the smallest part of us is conscious of it. I don’t want her to fear it at all and she can’t if she doesn't know that it’s happening.
“How old were you when you became what you are?” she asks.
Caught off guard by the question and maybe more-so by the shifting of the mood, I hesitate before answering.
“I was nine.”
She sniffles and wipes her eyes with the hand near her cheek.
“You were very young,” she goes on. “I guess in a way like me, you never had a chance to live a life of your choosing. I guess maybe we aren't really so different from each other.” She pauses. “Except I might be more like your brother than I care to admit. He’s as angry as I am.”
I release my finger from the trigger and slowly, so she doesn't know, move the barrel away from the back of her head.
“It must’ve been hard growing up with Niklas,” she says.
I set the gun back on the bed next to me and before I know what I’m doing I’m cradling the back of her head in my hand again.

Review: Beg (Songs of Submission #1) by C.D. Reiss

Beg (Songs of Submission #1) by C.D. Reiss
Goodreads blurb:

This novella is the first in a series

My name is Monica. I’m a singer born and raised in Los Angeles.
I've stopped dating. When I cut a record, or win a Grammy, maybe then I’ll be with someone, but every man in my past has done everything he could to make me submit myself to him, and it’s gotten in the way of my career. I won’t do it again.

But there’s Jonathan. He owns the high-rise hotel where I work, and he is gorgeous and charming. I refuse to fall in love with him, even though when he asks me to submit to him, I want nothing more.

****GRAPHIC LANGUAGE, SEX, AND ADULT SITUATIONS****

First things first, I don’t like Monica! You wanna know why? I will show you why.

“I loved Gabby. She was like a sister to me, but sometimes I wished for a less burdensome friend.”

That’s just not right! Her friend has a depression, tried to kill herself, she is now showing the same behaviors that she did when she tried to kill herself, and Monica wishes for a less burdensome friend!? What the hell! And one more thing, when she has to choose between going home with Gabby and make sure she doesn't do anything bad and going to Jonathan’s house to sleep with him, what do you think she chose? She chose going to Jonathan’s house. I just think that that is not right, I would never do something like that and that is why I don’t like Monica. If you have to choose between making sure your best friend is okay and sleeping with a guy that you barely know, you choose your best friend.

Well, moving on... Jonathan, I was impressed that he had red hair. I was not excepting that, I never read a book that the guy had red hair. I tried searching for some pictures of guys with red hair and I didn't really find many good ones, so I had a hard time imagining Jonathan.

At first I didn't like him either because he looked shy or something.

“H-Hi,” I stammered. “I’ll be your server.” I smiled. That always worked. Then I thought happy thoughts because that made my smile genuine, and I watched Drazen move his gaze from my smiling face, over my breasts, to my hips, stopping at my calves. I felt as if I were being applauded again.
He looked back at my face. I stared right back at him, and he pursed his lips. I’d caught him looking, and he seemed justifiably embarrassed.”

Aren't you supposed to look at her, see that she saw you looking and smirk, like that was exactly what you wanted to happen? Well, I guess I’m just used to things this way...
Anyway, as I read the book, I found that he is not so bad.

I read some parts of other reviews before I started reading the book, and many people said that the sex scenes were hot, so I was excited to read them. But when I did I found that it was too short. She was saying that she thought that she couldn't take four more hours of that and I was thinking “What did you do that was so special?”. There was a part that I think is very... what’s the word? Interesting maybe?

“When I looked down at him, his eyes were closed with intensity as he flicked his tongue over my clit.” (....) “We kissed. He tasted perfectly of whiskey and desire. I wanted him. I wanted every inch of him”

You do know that you are tasting yourself right? Is good to know that she finds that her taste is perfect...

It was exactly at 96% that I thought it was getting interesting, so because of that I will continue to read the books because even though I don’t like Monica and had a hard time finding Jonathan sexy, I’m interested in knowing what will happen next.

Review: Acheron (Dark-Hunter #15) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Goodreads blurb:

Eleven thousand years ago a god was born. Cursed into the body of a human, Acheron endured a lifetime of hatred. His human death unleashed an unspeakable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Brought back against his will, he became the sole defender of mankind.

Only it was never that simple...

For centuries, he has fought for our survival and hidden a past he never wants revealed.

Now his survival, and ours, hinges on the very woman who threatens him. Old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both.

War has never been more deadly... or more fun.

“It takes a lot of strength and courage to trust a stranger when you've been harmed by the very people who were supposed to protect you. But the one thing I've learned is that it can be done. That all of us are worthy and that we all matter.”

Do you see that quote that you just read? Yeah, well just so you know that is a quote from the author’s note! That's how perfect this book is. Sherrilyn is my favorite author ever. God! With her books she makes you feel so many things, she teaches you so many things. She makes you see the world in a complete different way.

As Sherrilyn says, every story has at least two sides. The side of the person who witnessed or experienced it and the truth. Events are always clouded by perception, conclusions and emotions. If two or more people experience the same exact event, they will come away with two entirely different tales about it. In this book you have to think about that a lot because for most of the first part of the book you are reading from Ryssa’s and Acheron’s POV and that makes you hate people. Makes you want to kill Styxx for the things that he did to Acheron but I had to keep in mind that maybe he was doing does things for a reason, I’m not saying that it was right the things that he did, I’m just saying that we simply don’t know how Styxx’s life really was. It was hard sometimes obviously, because you start to think that there is no excuse in the world for those kind of acts, it comes to the point that you just think that he is a horrible person, that he should go through the same things that Acheron did but then Acheron comes and says that no one should go through those things, that he would never do that to another human being and there he is, teaching you how to be a better person.

“Then he will be called Acheron for the River of Woe. Like the river of the Underworld, his journey shall be dark, long and enduring. He will be able to give life and to take it. He will walk through his life alone and abandoned--ever seeking kindness and ever finding cruelty.”

And that's exactly what happens. Acheron just wanted to be loved, just wanted a hug from his mother and father and all that we got were slaps even as a little boy. He was just seven years old and he thought he was a monster when all he was was kind and respectful. He was born and everyone say that he would do bad things to other people when in reality he never wanted to harm anyone. Everyone was mean to him and he didn't want revenge. He wanted someone to love him and stop looking at him like he was a piece of shit or simply to be left alone.

I been waiting for months to read this book. In the previous books we get to know little things from Acheron’s past but when you start reading his book you see that his life was even worse than you though. Oh my god, the way that people treated him was just so cruel, he didn't deserve any of that. And Artemis, you don’t even know how much I hate her, I never really liked her, but in the beginning of the book I began to think that she really loved him. She did love him, as far Artemis can love anyone, but it was the wrong kind of love, it was a selfish love. She did things to him that no one would do to a person that she loves. She is a selfish son of a bitch! I hate her and I would LOVE for someone to kill her! She betrayed Acheron, he loved her and she didn't even wanted to be seen with him in public. He was hurt and all she could think of was that she would heal him so he could sleep with her, and if he didn't act how she wanted or said something that she didn't like she would give him the pain back! Who says that loves someone and at the same time thinks that no one could know that they are together and that if anyone knew they would mock her. Who cares? If you love someone you stay with her no matter what and you definitely are not ashamed of that person.

“The whore was tired now. He was finally broken. And it wasn't by the hand of his master or a client.
It'd been by the hand of the only person he'd ever loved. Defeated and lost, Acheron lay down on the cold balcony and closed his eyes, praying for death to finally come and end this nightmare that was his life.”

In this book you see so many sides of Acheron. In the other books he was mysterious, strong, sometimes scary, intelligent. Powerful. And in the second part of this book he starts to look so normal, doing things that you would read in other books but not in the Dark Hunters. It’s so great to see him like that. He is so adorable! Can you believe that Acheron blushes? He does! And he is so clumsy around Tory, is so cute.

“I'm really not the asshole you think I am. The journal's from a young woman in an isolated part of Greece and documents her life for about eighteen months. It's pretty much boring reading, but if you want more details, call me. 555-602-1938.”

Can you imagine the big scary but cute Acheron writing a note like this because a woman thinks he is a asshole? I can’t!

Acheron and Tory’s relationship is so cute and fun. It’s fantastic because it looks like they were planned to be together for a long time, it’s like they knew each other but they really didn't. They were strangers and there were so many feelings between each other that a person would only feel for someone that they knew for a long time. Their relationship is beautiful. Thank God for Tory, she is everything that Acheron needed.

This book was so so so so good. The characters are perfect as always and the story was very well written. It was amazing to get to know more about Acheron and finally see him happy. This book is now part of my favorite books.

Can’t wait to read more books of this fantastic series. For me there is nothing better than to read a book by Sherrilyn.

He's willing to do whatever it takes to get her back, but a budding music career and his own demons seem to keep getting in the way. How can you help someone else when you can barely help yourself? Once again Zeke is faced with deciding between his future and the future of Patience.

Turning in his arms to face him, I took in his softly sleeping face. His mouth was slightly open and his long dark lashes relaxed against his high cheekbones. Running a finger down the side of his face earned me a deep husky moan. It was the sexiest thing I’d ever heard. His facial hair felt like warm velvet against my cheek as I leaned in and pressed a tiny kiss on the corner of his mouth.

I backed away, expecting to continue to watch him sleep, but he followed me up with his eyes still closed and started to kiss me. Again he moaned when I allowed him access and he slipped his tongue into my mouth. Flipping me onto my back, his naked body covered mine. The white sheet tangled around our bodies as he pressed himself to mine.

His hand worked its way up my side brushing against my breast and I released a tiny sound into his mouth. His hand continued its journey until he rested it against the side of my neck. Tattooed fingers dug into the hairs on the back of my neck as he invaded my mouth with Zeke sweetness.
Pulling away, he gazed down at me with sleepy eyes and a lazy grin.

“You woke us up.” His voice was rough with sleep.

I wrapped my arms around his neck, “Us?”

Looking down between our bodies, he looked back up at me with a smile as he pressed his hips into mine. Hard heat that pushed into my thigh and I lifted my hips for more. He smiled down at me and shifted the hair out of his eyes.

“Yes… us. I’m okay in the morning, but the prick downstairs will take a jab at you if you wake him up.

Book Blitz & Giveaway: Romancing the R.A. (Campus Romance #1) by Ashelyn Drake

Goodreads blurb:

Noelle Buckman is looking forward to making a fresh start in college, one that doesn't involve immature high school boys. The second she steps on campus for freshman orientation, she can sense the possibilities. Especially when she spots Andy, a resident advisor who’s not just hot but also thoughtful enough to open doors for a girl.

And Andy has his eye on Noelle. Even when her nerves take control and she thinks she comes off as a hillbilly with no direction, Andy can see what she’s really like and he’s more than a little interested.

But orientation is less than two full days and there’s an entire summer between Noelle and Andy. Will her attempt to romance the R.A. be as short-lived as college orientation?

He’s stunned at first and doesn't move. I start to pull away, thinking I've made a huge mistake, but then I feel Andy’s hand on my lower back, pulling me closer. His lips part, and he deepens the kiss.

Every inch of me is on fire. Andy’s an incredible kisser, but the position we’re in is awkward. I reach my hands up and bury my fingers in his hair, which prompts him to lift me onto his lap. Much better. Our bodies are pressed so close I can feel every inch of him. My lungs are screaming for air, but I’m not willing to give in to them. I've been dying to kiss Andy ever since he first smiled at me, and I’ll be damned if I’m backing away that quickly.

His hands move up my back to my hair, and he pulls my head back gently exposing my neck. His lips trail down my jaw and to the nape of my neck. I bite my lip to stifle a moan, but it manages to slip out anyway. Andy slowly eases off, opening his eyes to see my reaction. I debate pulling his lips back to mine, but for the moment I drape my arms around his shoulders and just stare into his baby blue eyes.

“Wow.”

He can say that again. “Yeah.”

“I can honestly say that’s the first time I didn't have to make the first move.”

“And it’s the first time I ever made the first move.”
He smiles. “Then I’m honored.” He leans forward and places a single kiss on my neck. His hips rise under me, and I know exactly where he’s hoping this is going to lead. My body is screaming for his touch, but I don’t want to be that girl. The one who goes off to college and sleeps with the first guy she meets. As much as I want Andy, I can’t do this right now.

When she's not reading or writing or wandering the world, she can be found in her backyard in Utah with her husband, their daughter and the bevy of quail that live behind their garage.

If she didn't write she'd make stop-motion animation shorts.  So she does that anyway.

Review: Dream Chaser (Dark-Hunter #14) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Goodreads blurb:

Hades doesn't often give second chances...

Xypher has one month on Earth to redeem himself through one good deed or be condemned to eternal torture in Tarturus. But redemption means little to a demigod who only wants vengeance on the one who caused his downfall.

Until one day in a cemetery...

Simone Dubois is a medical examiner with a real knack for the job. Those who are wrongfully killed appear to her and help her find the evidence the police need to convict their killers. But when a man appears and tells her that she’s more than just a psychic, she’s convinced he’s insane.

Now the fate of the world hangs in her hands...

It was bad enough when just the dead relied on her. Now’s there’s the seductive Dream-Hunter Xypher who needs Simone’s help in opening a portal to the Atlantean hell realm to fight insatiable demons. The future of mankind is at stake—and so is her life. The only question now is: Who is the bigger threat: the demons out to kill her, or the man who has left her forever changed?

I missed the Dark Hunters so much! This was the serie that made me fall in love with books and is completely impossible for a book by Sherrilyn to disappoint me.

I never was a big fan of the Dream Hunters but I can tell you that this book surprised me, Xypher is awesome, he is definitely my favorite Dream Hunter.

Dream Chaser is about Simone and Xypher. Simone is a medical examiner that can talk with ghosts so she uses that to help find the killers. Her mother and brother were killed when she was young and that day when she was in the hospital a ghost named Jesse came to her and told her not to cry, since that day they never left each other. Simone and Jesse have a wonderful friendship, is beautiful to see them together. How much they care for each other, how much they love each other, Jesse is her only family and he loves to be with her.

Xypher is half demon/ half god. He is dead but in the book Devil May Cry, Katra made a deal with Hades that he would allow Xypher to be human for a month and if within that month he found his humanity, he would be free. But Xypher just wants vengeance from the person that caused him to be tortured for all the eternity, he doesn’t even believe for a second that after that month he would not get back to hell, he just wants to make sure that this time he doesn’t go alone.

This book was amazing! Like always Sherrilyn gives us many surprises, twists that we were not expecting and makes us see that just because you suppose a person is mean doesn’t really mean that they are and that some people just need someone to loved them and they can become a completely different person, they priorities can change.

We also get to meet a new character that I LOVED and I am super curious to know more about. At a certain point that character really surprised me with his actions and that made me like him even more.

If you are already familiar with the Dark Hunters world than you know that all the books are fantastic and always full of surprises and you definitely should read this book. If you are not then what are you waiting for? Go read the first book in the series, you will love it.

I recommend reading all the books in the proper order, you don’t have to do it but I think is much more nice to know what previously happened and all the characters stories.
